Can I self-host the Unison brain?
Understand the current self-hosting options for Unison and what to consider if data residency or air-gap requirements apply.
Can I run Unison on my own infrastructure?
Unison's cloud offering at brain.unisonlabs.ai is the primary deployment. Self-hosting options are available for teams with data residency, compliance, or air-gap requirements.
Cloud (default)
The managed cloud at brain.unisonlabs.ai is the fastest way to get started. Data is stored and processed in Unison's infrastructure. This works for most teams without special compliance requirements.
Self-hosted / private deployment
If you need data to stay within your own environment — due to GDPR data-residency requirements, SOC 2 controls, or air-gap mandates — contact the Unison team to discuss private deployment options.
Things to clarify before reaching out:
- Residency requirement: Which region or cloud account must data stay in?
- Air-gap requirement: Does the deployment need to run without internet access?
- Scale: Approximate number of users and expected ingest volume.
- Existing infrastructure: Which cloud provider (AWS, GCP, Azure) or on-prem environment.
What changes when self-hosted
The API surface is identical — your application code doesn't need to change. You point your base URL at the self-hosted instance instead of brain.unisonlabs.ai. Auth provisioning, recall, and ingest all work the same way.
